Course Rationale:

Why is the course offered? Who are the students?

Changes in the workplace brought about by technology, downsizing, and restructuring have led to the realization that students need different skills to be successfully employed today than they did ten years ago. In order to provide students with the skills they need to succeed in college, technical school, or the work force, high schools must ensure that students acquire both academic and vocational skills in their courses. Today’s schools must offer all students challenging, relevant academics and meaningful work-based experiences in their communities. We must address the mismatch between what and how students are learning in high school and what they will be required to know and do to ensure successful careers.

Digital imaging, design, graphic arts, photography, and publishing are some of the fastest growing sectors in our economy today. In general, a career in one of these areas offers tremendous flexibility since they can be executed through telecommuting, freelancing and part time work. The work that is being executed touches us daily in every phase of our lives. From advertisements, billboards, e-commerce, printed materials, radio, television, to web sites; on average 10,000 images bombard us daily. These images need to be created, designed, edited, and produced.

Chuck Groot Digital Imaging 11 is geared towards grade 11 and 12 students but would be accessible for mature grade 10 students. This course will also become a support course for the following Career Prep Programs: Art Courses, Print Communications, and Video Arts.
